Benault Beno escaped political persecution in the Democratic Republic of Congo eight years ago. A high school administrator, and teacher, Beno would describe his life as normal until he was faced with having to escape a politician to save his life.

“It’s not easy to be an asylum seeker,” says Chantal, “It’s a very difficult, very difficult step.” Chantal had to make the choice to flee the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Her path to hope started when she knocked on Vive’s door on a cold winter night.

Brunette and her daughter Besma, age two, lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was a season of election and there was a problem. Brunette and her daughter had to move quickly. “I had no choice. I wanted to stay in my country, but I couldn’t.”
