Elected Officials Must Protect Medicaid
Today, the Buffalo News published an op-ed by our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Allana Krolikowski.
As the federal government seeks to reduce spending, cuts to Medicaid seem inevitable–although devastating. What happens when the poorest among us can no longer access healthcare? The answer is that all of us will be less healthy.
“…While this may save money in the short term, we will all pay more in the long term. People will delay seeking care, utilize the emergency room and have more complications from chronic disease. When they can’t pay their medical bills, this uncompensated care leads to increased cost for the rest of us. We must invest in primary care, decrease administrative waste, and ensure access for everyone living in this country to reduce healthcare costs for all of us.”
